Documentaries provide an immersive experience for viewers to grasp complicated issues by presenting a unique viewpoint on the world. They promote critical thinking by providing real-life scenarios and promoting examination.
ReplyDeletedocumentaries provide information displayed in an interesting and in depth visual. there are documentaries about everything now a days but most that go viral are the ones that talk about things people didn't seem possible or go into depth of experiences people don't normally talk about. documentary leave the viewer in disflibf sometimes but in general they are meant to inform the public and make people think
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries can help the audience learn thoroughly about problems that happen. The documentarian makes it so the audience gets one (or many) perspective and shows what truly goes on. With this one side view, the audience can obtain the same stand and compare it to their own experiences. It can create social change by creating strong emotions such as leaving the audience empowered or moved. Once feeling empowered, the viewers can now strive to do their own research and look more into the certain topic.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries provide real footage of things that have happened. The way footage and storytelling can be manipulated to share the message the directors or filmmakers want. Stories/histories/ lives that are untold can be shared through documentaries; evoking social change, providing knowledge, exposing secrets. Docs can often be woven into ongoing pop-culture info, like big murder cases, or the lives of certain celebrities. I don't know how I feel about the authenticity of Docs tell stories.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries tell stories based on real life events. They’re typically assumed to be factual and can be a good way to learn about different topics. Although it’s true that documentaries are usually based on reality and facts, there can also be bias in the stories. The director of the documentary has their own ideas and opinions on the topic that the documentary covers. While a director could have done research to make sure they know all the facts, they’re still telling their view of the story/topic. The presentation of reality in documentaries is not always 100% accurate and therefore, there should be some skepticism when using it as a learning device. Nevertheless, stories are impactful and can inspire social change. There’s always a meaning behind a story and it’s good to find it and make of it what you will.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries can be much more interesting and compelling than movies due to their subject matter. Documentaries are meant to be about real events and real world issues, rather than a normal dramatized movie based on fiction, documentaries show real stories and have the potential to educate and move people in the world towards a better future. Although typically documentaries are about reality, there is no set topic or rules, giving much room for creative control and ways to really send a message about something that really matters. I think documentaries are important to watch to entertain as well as educate yourself on past and present events.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries can be a great way to teach and enlighten people about a topic. Being set in reality, they already provide an undramatized and realistic view of an event, person, etc. Learning from real accounts of a subject is the best way to learn since they provide the most reliable and in-depth information. Also, many documentaries offer multiple sides to a story, especially about people. Having several perspectives and views allows for a more wholistic understanding and makes documentaries a great method of education.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries are a great way to start out in research as it neatly presents information on a topic. Though bias can play a role in the production of a documentary, take a crime documentary for instance. If the director were to favor one person in the suspects maybe there would be more focus and details pinning that person. The direction they take the color grading and music also plays a factor into bias, they want you to feel a certain way when viewing the information. Otherwise, documentaries are a valuable resource when trying to educate on a topic.
ReplyDeleteMainly I’ve been thinking about documentaries as a means of social change. Precious Knowledge was an infuriating, heart-warming, and depressing documentary. It probably seems like those things can’t coexist, but there was certainly an emotional range to it. The issue of ethnic studies in Arizona/Tucson is mind numbingly frustrating. It’s purely fueled by racism on one side, then the other is just students/teachers of color with the desire to learn further about their own histories and cultures. Many of the Letterboxd reviews for it contained very angry, violent sentiments towards the villainous politicians featured in the documentary. Fair, in my opinion. Anyway, the documentary is a living testament to the students at the time who protested and worked hard for their right to learn. That impact can’t be understated.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries seem tricky as an art form because even though they're seen as truth they're still fabricated in a way. The documentarian chooses the story being told through who they chose to interview. This leads the story in a certain way, and it doesn't really matter if that way is the truth or not. It seems like it would be difficult to make a documentary that has a balanced perspective but maybe that's why there's multiple people in charge of different things. (I don't know much about how movies work).
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries are an art form that can inform, challenge, and inspire audiences through the power of visual storytelling. They offer a unique mode of teaching and learning that engages viewers through a variety of audio-visual techniques and immersive storytelling.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries provide valuable information and can be an excellent tool used to teach people about a subject. The information is attempted to be delivered in a way that does not seem dull or uninteresting. Documentaries share ideas to a wider audience as well.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries from a cinematic view show our society’s value or lack there of the real world and it’s infinite perspectives. They’re so important in giving outsiders an insider view on issues that aren’t previously made aware of. The impact of documentation has shined light on many hidden or rewritten events. Many of us have had preconceived notions about people we have not met, but develop a friendship upon finding out who they personally are. Just as that, documentaries bring out the subject’s humanity and give space for the audience to relate/ feel empathetic.
DeleteAs an educational tool, I think documentaries can be really powerful and helpful in terms of student engagement. More students would rather watch a documentary or parts of a documentary than read a book or article. Documentaries can also be a helpful tool in enhancing inclusivity in the classroom as students who have reading struggles may fall behind when an article or chapter is assigned, but they are able to participate equally when the medium is changed. This, of course, can also have the opposite effect.

DeleteAfter our class discussion on documentaries, I was able to watch Revisionaries with a different point of view. One thing worth noting is that the director did not put much footage of people who were going against the republican vote to get rid of evolution in textbooks in Texas. I think it would have been beneficial to film behind the scenes footage of the pro-evolution people because they had a good amount of content for the opposing side. Overall, I think the documentary created visibility for the ongoing conflict of what should be included in schools and the separation of church and state.
ReplyDeleteI think documentaries are used to help educate. Documentaries that are truly based off of someones life, without having any added twists or turns to it. Not having any twists or turns may mean that the documentary itself will not be as fun to watch but it also brings out a more educational side of things to learn from it.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries are a cool mix of storytelling that lies somewhere between journalism and movies. The filmmakers use documentaries to share views on a topic or just to give background on a topic and not take a certain stance on any topic. Documentaries are a nice way to stay educated and invested into a topic.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries reveal realistic events and provide details on situations, people's stories, or any historical events that can be shown through facts or interviews, etc. This allows for documentaries to bring awareness that could promote social change by educating people who are watching. Normally documentaries incorporate some type of emotional impact as well.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries show us how real life can be. Showing the audience someone's raw, personal life can open us to different perspectives in other's lives and educate us to think differently. There are many genres when it comes to documentaries and each of them always show me a new way to look at things.

DeleteDocumentaries are a unique and powerful medium that seamlessly blend art and education while offering a fresh perspective on the world around us. Documenteries serve as a window into the the lives and realities that are portrayed through the world. They are a form of art that serve as a mode for teaching and holds the potential to create social change and express relationship with other forms of popular culture.
ReplyDeletedocumentaries gives out information in a more entertaining way instead of just reading about it. It gives real footage , not for fake about the world around us . From nature documentaries to viewing people in different countries
ReplyDeletedocumentaries provide information in a way that spreads awareness while also being entertaining. they go in-depth on topics that no one would have thought of. it shows realness in many situations and has become popular with streaming services creating more of them.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries are a unique form of film because you can learn information in a way that incorporates storytelling. It’s not just knowledgeable but also entertaining. We can watch from different perspectives to not be single minded. But they can also be biased and sometimes lack authenticity. Nonetheless, they are made to inform viewers and make an impact on our thoughts.
ReplyDeleteDocumentaries are an important form of media because it is a more realistic form of storytelling than a movie or something that is scripted. This is a great way to educate your audience on a topic that is important to you. I enjoyed watching the documentary, Teachers of America, because it showed the real issues teachers face and why so many people choose to not go into teaching. I also loved the other documentaries that my classmates presented on! I enjoyed how real the stories were and got a better idea of our education system because of it.
